Aikido is a Japanese martial art that focuses on harmony and self-defense rather than aggression. Unlike some martial arts that emphasize striking or overpowering an opponent, Aikido uses the energy of an attack to neutralize the threat. It’s often described as “the way of harmony with the spirit,” reflecting its philosophy of resolving conflict peacefully.
In Aikido, you’ll learn how to blend with an opponent’s movement, using techniques like throws, joint locks, and pins to control and subdue them without causing harm. This makes it suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. Training in Aikido isn’t just about learning self-defense; it’s also about personal growth, improving balance, flexibility, and mental focus.
As a beginner, you’ll start with basic techniques and gradually build your skills through practice with a partner. The goal is not to compete, but to improve yourself and develop a deep understanding of the principles of Aikido. It’s a journey of both physical and mental discipline, fostering respect, confidence, and a peaceful mindset.
